Front end
The front end supplied by DVDemand is totally software based. Of course, the software must run on some hardware. The WebStore supplied by DVDemand runs on Windows 2000 servers. Most web hosting services have servers that can run the WebStore. If one wishes to run his own web server, we recommend using a dedicated rack-mounted 1U web server. Such servers are available from all the major brands (IBM, Compaq, Dell). The servers are inexpensive, and have built-in web accelerators.
It is also possible to run the front end without DVDemand's web site. In this case, all one has to do is interface with a software API supplied by DVDemand. Users can then run their own web store, on any operating system they want.
Back end
The back-end is composed of one or more servers, storage devices (media server), disc production devices and print devices. The table below summarizes the elements provided in the basic system, and the upgrades possible.
